|The Livescribe 8GB Echo Smartpen, can record everything you hear, write and draw and its special microdot paper (required for the pen to capture your handwriting) links your audio to your notes which allows you to find and replay your recordings with a simple tap on a relevant notation. This special microdot paper is merely a regular paper but printed with a unique pattern of tiny micro-dots. Its unique patented dot-positioning system enables the Echo smartpen to precisely track all it writes on the paper. Echo smartpen is actually a follow-up to Livescribe's first smartpen called Pulse. It is equipped with 8GB of memory and holds over 800 hours of audio or 128,000 pages of notes. The main components of Echo Smartpen are a ballpoint pen; an infrared camera cloaked inside the tip; and a microphone integrated into the pen barrel. It digitally records sound and handwriting all at the same time. The recordings made through it are saved straight to its internal memory. The recorded data can be replayed via the pen's built-in speaker or transferred to any Mac or PC using the free Livescribe desktop software.
With its Livescribe Desktop software, the Livescribe Echo Smartpen gives powerful features like the ability to search for specific words and phrases in the handwritten notes as well as drag and drop organization. It is equipped with a micro USB port that lets you transfer notes and audio to your Mac or PC, a 3.5mm audio jack and an OLED display on the side for easy navigation and interaction that makes the Livescribe 8GB Echo Smartpen works with PC and (Intel) Mac. The Echo Smartpen derives its power from an internal rechargeable battery. Echo Smartpen makes it easy to share your notes or recordings publicly or privately as PDF, audio file, or a pencast. A pencast is actually an interactive flash movie of your handwritten notes and audio.
